Exposing Iran’s UN Representative: The Truth About Linguistic Rights Violations Against Azerbaijanis

Exposing the False Claims of Iran’s Representative at the UN Regarding the Implementation of Article 15 of the Constitution According to ArdDh,on November 28, 2024, the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the UN Forum on Minority Issues claimed that Article 15 of the Iranian Constitution, which guarantees education in native languages, has been fully implemented. The representative also asserted that studying Kurdish and Azeri(Azerbaijani languages) in fields such as literature and theology is accessible. In response to these remarks, Mansoor Seifi, representing Arc Association and speaking at the session, called the claim a “diplomatic lie.” He emphasized that Azerbaijani activists advocating for the implementation of Article 15 face suppression, arrests, and imprisonment. Jale Tabrizi, Director of Arc Association, in an interview with ARC Media Group, stated: “For years, the Islamic Republic has presented such falsehoods to the global community. However, today Azerbaijani human rights activists are exposing these baseless claims and revealing the reality of widespread violations of the Azerbaijani people’s rights in Iran to the world.” The Iranian representative’s statements come despite repeated reports by human rights organizations documenting violations of linguistic and cultural rights of national minorities in Iran. These reports indicate no significant efforts have been made to enforce the constitutional provisions in this regard.
