Items 3&5: Interactive dialogue with the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP)
29 septembre 2021
We salute UNESCO for its initiative to celebrate the International Year of Indigenous Languages in 2019.
However, we focus on the situation of ethnic minorities whose identity and respect for linguistic cultural pluralism must be preserved by the IIR.
Unlike multinational states, national states like Iran claim to rely on a single nation and thus impose a dominant language, Persian.
We think that :
Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination,
The Committee on the Rights of the Child,
The Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights,
largely allow the defense of the rights of minorities so that they benefit from education in the mother tongue, their culture and others…
Today in Iran, minorities are marginalized and Covid 19 contributes to increased discrimination in towns and villages in East and West Azerbaijan where children are deprived of education.
We demand that the Islamic Republic respects its constitution and also implements articles 15 and 19, and accepts multiculturalism and multilingualism in the country.
